You are required to write a report on a fire ecology topic of your choice. This assessment
item will test your ability to communicate findings, develop your skills at researching and
critical thinking, and broaden your knowledge of fire effects on biota. For this assessment
you will need to use books and journals from the library, and search for relevant literature, as
well as the references contained in the lectures and readings.
Some suggested topics:
o Fire’s role in relation to individual animal or plant species/groups or ecosystems
o Fire management by aboriginal people in Australia and elsewhere
o Fire regimes in different vegetation types
o Methods of studying fire history
o Fire management planning for national parks
For a report such as this you will need to read a substantial amount of published literature,
digest that material and provide a clear analysis of the topic (your own analysis) while
appropriately referencing the relevant literature.
Report Style and Content

form of a general review and include background, discussion and conclusion. This means that
you have a bit more leeway as far as layout goes than you would if writing a scientific report,
